Welcome to the Monroe Historical Society newspaper archive.

Monroe's primary newspaper, the Monroe Monitor, began publication in 1899 and is still in print. Business pioneers launched several additional weeklies over the following decades, all of which closed after a few years or merged with the Monitor.  This archive eventually will include the Monroe Historical Society’s holdings up to the year 1979.
